Progress update: our journey to produce biohydrogen for the transport sector
Early March marked two significant site visits for the H2BoostProject which is funded through the Hydrogen BECCS Innovation Programme, part of the government's £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
Our first stop took us to QUBE Renewables Ltd in Taunton, where pivotal work is underway on the dark fermentation and anaerobic digestion components of the H2Boost system. These crucial elements will soon find their home at The Maltings Organic Treatment Ltd in South Milford, where they'll be joined by the carbon capture system come April.
Using the research and testing undertaken here at the BDC on optimal feedstocks inoculum preparation, and with the University of Leeds and CyanoCapture's testing on carbon capture, the demonstration scale plant will produce hydrogen from waste feedstocks and capture carbon.
Together, we're on the cusp of something groundbreaking: a demonstration-scale plant that not only produces hydrogen from waste feedstocks but also champions carbon capture, paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
